Teagan Kavan makes WCWS history with 2nd MOP award after Texas title win
Teagan Kavan has ended the season in the Women’s College World Series Championship during her entire stay at Texas. The junior pitcher has helped his program explore new territory and supplant rival Oklahoma as the new juggernaut of the sport, at least for the time being, and now she has the accolades to commemorate this colossal impact. The Longhorns seized momentum after a game-altering error in the fifth inning and then handed the ball to Kavan, who closed out a title-clinching 4-1 win versus Texas Tech.
The supremely clutch performer took the mound with a 2-1 lead, struck out the side in the sixth and then fanned two more in a routine seventh, securing Texas a special place in college softball history. She did the same for herself.
Kavan becomes the first athlete to win WCWS Most Outstanding Player honors more than once. She added to her incredible legacy with another fantastic accomplishment. Kavan recorded four wins, two of which were shutouts, and two saves in this illustrious tournament. She is the first pitcher to notch multiple saves and multiple shutouts in one Women’s College World Series, according to the ESPN Insights X account. When the lights are bright, this superb talent shines brighter.
The Longhorns best the Red Raiders for the championship in back-to-back years, surviving trailblazer NiJaree Canady once again. Kayden Henry recorded a team-high two hits in the game, including an insurance home run in the top of the seventh. Leighann Goode capped off her Longhorns career with an RBI single, which was all the run support Kavan needed.
Texas’ ace allowed a three-run home run to Elsa Morrison in her team’s first game of the 2026 WCWS, which was a 6-3 loss versus Tennessee on May 28, but Teagan Kavan and the Longhorns bounced back in an amazing way over the last week. They will go for the three-peat in 2027, a feat that would surely make the Sooners seethe.
There is plenty of time to strive for such immortality, however. This group has earned the right to reflect on its meteoric rise.
