Tarris Reed Jr. recalls ‘toughest moment’ as Spurs chapter begins

The San Antonio Spurs turned to post NBA Finals help for Victor Wembanyama Tuesday. UConn star big Tarris Reed Jr. comes over after the New York Knicks snatched the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Reed sounds relatable to the Spurs already.

Not because of his rugged style of play in the paint either. Reed himself left his last game with a bad taste in his mouth. Or as he called it with reporters Thursday, his “toughest moment.”

“That was probably the toughest moment of my life,” Reed said, reflecting back to UConn’s loss to Michigan for the national title.

The Wolverines bottled the high-volume paint scorer Reed to just 13 points that April evening. Michigan produced three NBA first rounders in the process on Tuesday.

But Reed already loves the situation he walks into near the Riverwalk. He’ll suit up for a team itching to redeem themselves from their own championship stage disappointment.

“Just having a group of guys that went through that last year with San Antonio, that’s going to be huge for us next year, having that chip on our shoulder and wanting to make things right,” Reed said.

Reed landed at No. 26 overall to the Western Conference champs. He immediately brings high expectations for himself.

“I feel like it’s going to be great playing alongside, playing with Wemby, whatever my role is this year,” Reed said. “That’s going to help on the defensive end, help me grab and snag offensive rebounds on the offensive end, and just be a force on both sides of the court.”

Alex Karaban joins Reed at first round picks from the Huskies.
