The NFC has looked the stronger of the NFL’s two conferences this season and that is borne out by the Super Bowl betting ahead of conference championship weekend. 

NFC rivals the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams fill the first two places in the outright market before Sunday’s showdown for the conference title at Lumen Field (kick-off 11.30pm GMT). 

The Seahawks dominated their home divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers last week, winning 41-6, while the Rams have had to come through two tough road assignments to get this far, winning 34-31 at the Carolina Panthers in the wild-card round before a 20-17 victory after overtime against the Chicago Bears in the divisional round.

NFL fans will be in for a treat if the game lives up to the two previous clashes between the heavyweight duo this season after the Rams won their home game 21-19 in Week 11, while the Seahawks clinched the Lumen Field meeting 38-37 in an overtime thriller in Week 16.

Rams can stay on the road to glory

If the Los Angeles Rams are able to win the Super Bowl for the second time in five seasons on February 8th, no one will be able to accuse them of having an easy route to glory.

The Rams have looked one of the best teams in the NFL all season, but finishing second to the Seahawks in the NFC West made them only the fifth seeds in the NFC, They have dealt with the consequences of that by winning two testing playoff contests on the road against the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears and now have another shot at the Seahawks.

With the first two games between the teams settled by margins of two and one point and with the losing team each time saying they had a legitimate chance to win, taking the Rams with a small handicap start of 2.5 points looks the best move for what could be another epic encounter between the divisional rivals.

The Seahawks have home advantage but that was also the case in their crunch Week 16 game against the Rams, a contest that saw them fall 30-14 behind early in the fourth quarter before staging an amazing rally to win 38-37 on a two-point conversion after both teams scored touchdowns in overtime.

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald has done a fantastic job this season but he has offensive issues to deal with as quarterback Sam Darnold is still nursing an oblique muscle injury and running back Zach Charbonnet has been ruled out of the season with a knee injury.

The Rams’ two tough playoff games will have taken a physical and mental toll but they have shown twice this season that there is little between them and the Seahawks and they are worth siding with as handicap underdogs.

Walker the focus for Seahawks’ offence

With Zach Charbonnet lost for the season, Kenneth Walker III will play an even more vital role in the Seahawks offence than usual and he is worth backing to have over 108.5 rushing and receiving yards in the game.

The running back had 100 rushing yards and 64 receiving yards in the teams’ Week 16 clash, although that went into overtime, and he had 67 rushing and 44 receiving yards in the teams’ lower-scoring Week 11 game.

Walker had 116 rushing yards alone against the 49ers last week and added 29 yards on three receptions.

Darnold injury still a concern for the home side

Start a three-leg bet builder on the Lumen Field contest by taking Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold to pass for 230 or fewer yards. Darnold attempted only 17 passes against the 49ers, completing 12 for just 124 yards as he took care of an oblique muscle injury sustained in practice. 

With 198 and 147 passing yards in his two outings before that, the Seahawks continue to depend more on their running game and defence for success.

Seahawks tight end AJ Barner may help out Darnold and can have 27 or more receiving yards. Barner had his best game of the season in the first meeting with the Rams, catching 10 passes for 70 yards, and he had four receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown against them in Week 16.

Complete the bet by taking Rams running back Kyren Williams to score a rushing touchdown. Williams ran in a touchdown in the Week 11 game against the Seahawks and scored both his teams’ TDs on the ground in last week’s win over the Bears.
