Suns’ Dillon Brooks gives six-word response to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander masterclass
PHOENIX– We know who Dillon Brooks will be matched up with after the Phoenix Suns’ 121-109 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3.
“He’s efficient,” Brooks explained when asked about Shai Gilgeous Alexander’s 42-point performance. “I got him (for) Game 4.”
The Suns forward hasn’t shied away from the limelight. He embraces the conflict, and Brooks’s rivalry with SGA is a part of the playoff storyline.
Regardless, both men have kept it about basketball and haven’t made it personal. But after Saturday’s game, that might be different.
Phoenix has its back against the wall with being in a 3-0 deficit. In the 159 total series with that discrepancy, no team has ever come back from it.
In Saturday’s game, Brooks was matched up with just about every defender. Some moments it was SGA, others it was Chet Holmgren, or even Ajay Mitchell.
Even in a series where Suns head coach Jordan Ott doesn’t want to go iso, Brooks feels the opposite, except his remarks were offensively. This is the first time where it’s been defensively focused.
Game 4 is a literal do-or-die situation. The Thunder can end the series and move on to the next round, or they’ll be forced to play Game 5 back on their home court.
Despite the Suns doing everything right, it wasn’t enough. Brooks had two consecutive, efficient 30+ point performances. However, Monday’s game might be time to go back to his bread-and-butter of defense.
The goal might be to limit SGA instead. After scoring 42 points, and missing Jalen Williams, the scoring responsibility is on him. Now it’ll be up to Brooks if his response can elicit a Phoenix victory.
