Suns’ Devin Booker outlines ‘recipe for disaster’ that led to blowout Game 1 loss to Thunder

It is back to the drawing board for Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns after they were obliterated by the Oklahoma City Thunder, 119-84, in Game 1 of their first-round matchup in the playoffs at Paycom Center.

The eight-seeded Suns failed to recover after starting flat, possibly a sign of fatigue after going through the Play-In Tournament. They shot an abysmal 35% from the field and conceded a whopping 34 points off 19 turnovers.

Phoenix, which escaped the Golden State Warriors to advance to the playoffs, trailed by as much as 39 points against the top-seeded Thunder.

Booker acknowledged that they shot themselves in the foot, as reported by The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin.

“We need to get a shot on goal. We had 19 turnovers, and they had 19 offensive rebounds. That’s a recipe for disaster,” said Booker in the postgame conference.

The five-time All-Star finished with 23 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Jalen Green, who scorched hot against the Warriors, only had 16 points on 6-of-16 field goals.

Booker, meanwhile, gave credit to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for dismantling Phoenix and to Jalen Williams for providing ample support to the reigning MVP.

“He (Williams) had a hell of a playoffs last year. Watched him really closely. Watched him in the finals. Had a 40-ball in the finals. Everybody is a threat on their team,” added Booker.

“Shai is the head of the snake, but he creates a lot of opportunities and allows them to have a lot of space to play freely. We loaded up on Shai tonight, showed him a lot of bodies, and he was able to create opportunities for his teammates.”

Game 2 is on Wednesday.
