Sun commit embarrassing blunder just 3 seconds into Liberty clash

The Connecticut Sun have not gotten off to a good start to the 2026 WNBA season as they currently hold the league’s worst record at 2-10. In what can basically sum up the Sun’s season to this point, the team committed a turnover only three seconds into their game against the New York Liberty on Monday when after winning the opening tip, Aaliyah Edwards accidentally passed the ball into the backcourt to Saniya Rivers.

As of publication, the Sun only trailed by single digits late in the fourth quarter of their game against the Liberty. The team is looking to snap a two-game losing streak after losses to the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream.

This season is an emotional one for Sun fans as it will be their last in Connecticut. Following a sale to Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, the team will move to Houston for the 2027 season and bring back the Comets. One of the original WNBA franchises, the Comets won the first four championships in league history.

The Sun have built a legacy in Connecticut though, and there was a time when they were perennial WNBA Finals contenders. But the team has opted for a retool in recent seasons stockpiling on young talent such as Edwards, Rivers, Aneesah Morrow, Leïla Lacan, Nell Angloma, Diamond Miller, Charlisse Leger-Walker and Gianna Kneepkens.

This is the Sun’s second season under Rachid Meziane as head coach. The former coach of the Belgian national team, he led the Sun to an 11-33 record in his first year at the helm.
