Sun claim Hailey Van Lith off waivers after Sky release

The Connecticut Sun claimed guard Hailey Van Lith off waivers on Wednesday, following her release from the Chicago Sky earlier in the week.

Van Lith, 24, entered the league as the No. 11 overall selection in the 2025 WNBA Draft out of TCU. During her rookie campaign with Chicago, she played 29 games and averaged 3.5 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per contest. One of the biggest concerns was her shooting, particularly her 16.1% accuracy from three-point range. However, she showed improved form in preseason action before her waiver placement, averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists while shooting an efficient 71.4% from the field across two games.

At the collegiate level, Van Lith built a decorated resume. She earned AP All-American honors and was named Big 12 Player of the Year in the 2024-25 season. That same year, she also collected First Team All-Big 12 recognition and Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. Across her time with Louisville, LSU, and TCU, she averaged 15.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists, while shooting 42.2% from the field, 33.8% from beyond the arc, and 84.0% from the free-throw line. She concluded her college career holding NCAA records for games played and started (172) as well as total minutes (5,692).

Internationally, Van Lith contributed to Team USA’s bronze medal performance in 3×3 basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Sun open their 2026 season at home Friday against the Seattle Storm.
