Steelers re-sign veteran D-Lineman after NFL Draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers added 10 new players to their roster via the 2026 NFL Draft. But after the festivities ended, the Steelers made one more addition via free agency.
Pittsburgh has re-signed defensive lineman Dean Lowry, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. While the financial terms of the deal aren’t yet known, Lowry signed a one-year contract, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.
Lowry missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a torn ACL in training camp. But he has been with the Steelers since 2024. Furthermore, new head coach Mike McCarthy has experience working with Lowry back in his Green Bay Packers days. When healthy, the franchise knows what the defensive tackle brings to the table.
The 31-year-old didn’t make much of an impact in his first year with the Steelers, putting up five tackles, a sack and a pass defense in 2024. However, he did play in 12 games, starting one. At the very least, Lowry full understands what is expected of Pittsburgh’s defense.
Over his entire nine-year NFL career, Lowry has registered 271 tackles, 35 quarterback hits and 16.5 sacks. He set career-highs in sacks (five) and quarterback hits (nine) back in 2021.
At this stage of his career, and coming off of a serious injury, it’s fair to wonder how much of an impact Lowry will make on a consistent basis. But at the very least, if healthy, he should make an impact on special teams will operating in the interior defensive line rotation.
The Steelers are still building out their first roster under coach McCarthy. But he can now be assured a familiar face will be back in 2026.
