Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers won’t make ’emotional decision’ on NFL future after loss to Texans
Aaron Rodgers made his thoughts on how he’ll approach the offseason very clear after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season-ending 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Round on Monday night.
Going into the playoffs, the Steelers has plenty of optimism. They finished with a 10-7 record as they secured the AFC North Division title in the final week of the regular season, clinching a playoff berth and securing the fourth seed. They set up a date with the Texans, who went 12-2 following an 0-3 start to end the year as one of the best teams in the league.
The score was only 7-6 going into the fourth quarter, but Houston blew the game wide open by scoring the last 23 points of the night to send Pittsburgh home and advance to the next round.
Rodgers reflected on the loss after the game. When reporters asked him about how his approach for the near future, he stated that his decision won’t be emotional as it will be completely within logic and reason.
“I’m not gonna make any emotional decisions. Disappointed, you know, obviously, it was such a fun year. You know, a lot of adversity, but a lot of fun, been a great year. You know, overall in my life in the last year, and this is, you know, a really good part of that, coming here and being a part of this team. So it’s disappointing to be sitting here with the season over,” Rodgers said at the 2:37 mark.

How Aaron Rodgers, Steelers played against Texans

Aaron Rodgers will take the offseason to decide the next steps of his NFL future. He is a free agent with the Steelers’ season over, making his decision one to keep an eye on very soon.
Defense was the name of the game throughout the first three quarters, only seeing 13 total points from both teams. The last 15 minutes of regulation saw the real winners come alive as Houston exploded with one offensive touchdown and two defensive scores. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh couldn’t put a dent on their opponent’s defense, making the end of the game a brutal watch for the home fans.
If Rodgers played his last game, then it was a tough one for the future Hall of Famer. He completed 17 passes out of 33 attempts for 146 yards and an interception that Houston returned for a touchdown.
Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell failed to make an impact in the run game, combining for just 63 yards after 18 carries. Gainwell led the team in receptions with four for 26 yards. DK Metcalf had two catches for 42 yards while Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught three passes for 26 yards.
The Steelers will look to retool in the offseason with the upcoming draft and free agency. They have plenty of decisions to make involving Rodgers, head coach Mike Tomlin and the rest of the roster. 2026 will be a pivotal year for the franchise’s direction as a whole.
