Spurs shock NBA Draft with new Victor Wembanyama partner
The Oklahoma City Thunder added national championship-winning center Aday Mara to their frontcourt with the No. 12 selection, and a bit later in the night, their rival snagged a big man of its own. The San Antonio Spurs grabbed Jayden Quaintance at No. 20, giving Victor Wembanyama another potential running mate in the low-post.
The 18-year-old impressed as a freshman at Arizona State before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He transferred to Kentucky for the 2025-26 campaign but played in just four games. Despite the obvious concerns, Quaintance boasts a great amount of defensive upside. The Spurs wore down the Thunder in the playoffs, and they want to make sure they can continue to overpower their biggest competition in the Western Conference.
