Spurs Game 4 comeback vs. Blazers sets new NBA playoff record

The San Antonio Spurs overcame a Stephon Castle hand injury and large deficit Sunday. They erased a 15-point deficit against the Portland Trail Blazers in winning 114-93. San Antonio landed in the NBA Playoffs record books in the process.

The Spurs are now the first team in league postseason history to trail by 15, then win by as many as that margin per ESPN Insights.

Portland hits unsettling territory, however. The Blazers have now squandered two large leads in back-to-back games.

The Trail Blazers had big second half leads in both Game 3 and Game 4 but ended up losing both games by double digits to the Spurs

How did San Antonio erase this latest big deficit inside the Moda Center? Victor Wembanyama delivered new damage on the floor for Game 4, hitting a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. He also hit an astonishing number for blocks.

Wemby cleared concussion protocol ahead of the game. Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints added how Wemby fell into Hakeem Olajuwon territory with his performance.

“He’s the second player in NBA playoff history to record that kind of line, joining Hakeem Olajuwon, who only did it once. Wemby is the only player to do it while making a 3-pointer,” Azarly posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Yet while Wemby added a new spectacular postseason outing, De’Aaron Fox took over during the fourth quarter. The lefty even put the Blazers in a spin cycle on this inside-the-paint basket.

Fox dropped 28 points and dished out seven assists with collecting six rebounds. He executed this ridiculous perimeter block too with his opposite hand.
