Sparks get torched by Marina Mabrey’s historic heat check
The Los Angeles Sparks bore witness to an offensive explosion from Marina Mabrey during the first quarter of their matchup against the Toronto Tempo on Thursday night.
Going into the contest, Los Angeles is having a decent start to the season. They have racked up more wins to start the campaign as they intend on the being in the mix for a playoff spot.
However, it will require stretches of winning consistency, something that opponents will make difficult for them. Mabrey decided to come out the gates on fire with her red-hot shooting to start the game.
Throughout the first 10 minutes of regulation, Mabrey torched the nets. In her seven minutes of play, she produced 19 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

How Sparks played against Marina Mabrey, Tempo
The Sparks were no match for Marina Mabrey as she had a historic night in the Tempo’s 125-97 victory.
In 32 minutes of action, Mabrey produced 53 points, six rebounds and two assists. She shot 17-of-28 from the field, including 9-of-18 from downtown, and 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Four players scored in double-digits for Los Angeles in the loss. Nneke Ogwumike led the team with 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and one steal. She shot 8-of-13 overall, including 1-of-4 from deep, and 4-of-4 from the line. Dearica Hamby came next with 21 points and nine rebounds, Rae Burrell had 17 points and four assists, while Emma Cannon provided 10 points off the bench.
Los Angeles fell to an 8-9 record on the season, holding the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Portland Fire and the Phoenix Mercury while trailing the Golden State Valkyries and the Dallas Wings.
The Sparks will look to bounce back in their next matchup, remaining on the road. They take on the Indiana Fever as tip-off takes place on June 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
