Sidney Crosby hits impressive career milestone in Penguins’ Game 5 win over Flyers
Sidney Crosby had his fingerprints all over the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Game 5 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night, which was a milestone victory in his career. The Penguins’ captain suffered an apparent injury that sent him down the tunnel, then returned to get an assist on the go-ahead 3-2 goal on his first shift, and was a massive part of Pittsburgh killing off the final few minutes of the game.
In the end, Crosby’s performance in the win and the milestone he hit show why he is still one of the best in the world. On Monday night, the Penguins’ win was the 100th playoff victory of Crosby’s career, according to Frank Seravalli via X, formerly Twitter.
The captain showed tremendous confidence in his team after Game 4, saying the Penguins looked like their old selves and that the season was far from over. As the Penguins keep winning games against the Flyers, their belief grows, and Philadelphia’s belief weakens.
It also can’t be good for the Flyers’ psyche that they need to close out the series against veterans like Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang. Philadelphia has a young, confident team, but Crosby is one of the greatest winners of this generation, and his teams are never out of the fight as long as he is playing.
The series now shifts to Philadelphia for Game 6, with Crosby and the Penguins feeling fairly confident that they can get Crosby’s 101st win and possibly more. Anything can happen if Pittsburgh can get the series back home for Game 7.
