Shannon Sharpe blasts Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for flopping like a fish in WCF

On the latest edition of Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe did not mince words when speaking about Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Alexander has been the center of heated discourse in the basketball world over what many consider to be foul baiting and flopping to get favorable referee calls.

The discussion on Nightcap centered around Alexander’s exploits, with former NBA star Joe Johnson describing what Alexander does and saying he’s “not mad at it.”

“He gonna give you a little flare, a little head back. Like he gonna… you know what I mean? He gonna sell it now. He gonna sell it, but I don’t blame him. I don’t blame him,” Johnson said.

This led Sharpe to give a very interesting comparison between the two-time MVP and a fish.

“I ain’t gonna lie. I’ve caught fish that flopped less than Shai. Hell, I didn’t even know they was alive when I pulled their a** out the water.”

The comparison is an apt description of what many believe Alexander does when attempting to draw fouls. When fish are out of water, they typically flop around as they try to get back in the water to breathe properly. Many critics of Alexander’s game will like Sharpe’s analogy, especially following his performance in Game 5.

While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished the 127-114 win over the Spurs with 32 points, he only made seven field goals and instead got 16 points from the free throw line on 17 attempts. The high level of free throws that dwarfed his field goals draws even more attention to what many would consider flopping and foul baiting.
