Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s mocking joke as Austin Reaves, LeBron charged at ref

The Los Angeles Lakers made headlines after their Game 2 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder last week when players Austin Reaves and LeBron James led what appeared to be a player’s meeting with NBA official John Goble.

It was a strange scene after the Thunder outscored the Lakers 61-38 in the second half to defeat the Lakers, 125-108. After the game, Reaves spoke about what led to his incident with Goble.

“I felt like I was respectful to all of them all night,” Reaves said. “A million times in the past, I’ve said way worse stuff. And when we were doing the whole tip ball and they were switching spots, I wanted to get on the other side because they had a guy on the other side, was just trying to keep an advantage. And he turned around and yelled in my face,” Reaves said after the game. I just thought it was disrespectful.”

When Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander saw what the Lakers were doing meeting with the referees, he had one response.

“Do we get a meeting, too?” Gilgeous-Alexander joked, per ESPN. “I just think it’s all distractions away from the court. That’s how I see it. Whether they’re right or wrong, the refs have made a call, and unless you challenge it, they’re not going to change it. It’s just another thing I can’t control, so I really don’t put any thought into it.”

The Lakers won the free throw battle in Game 3, but still lost by double-digits against the Thunder at home. Now, the series will come down to Monday night, where the Lakers are facing elimination.
