Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sends special message to Thunder fans in MVP speech

For the second straight year, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the home of the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, and it’s the same superstar, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander bagging another Michael Jordan Trophy.

On Sunday, with the Thunder enjoying a rest day before the Western Conference Finals, Gilgeous-Alexander accepted his MVP award. The four-time NBA All-Star accepted his award and made sure to give Oklahoma City fans their flowers, as they have been an incredible part of his journey in the Association.

“It’s been amazing. Welcoming me as a young kid, welcoming my family as my family continues to grow. This place has really become a second home to me,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, via Brandon Rahbar of The Daily Thunder. “The fans have been amazing. I really love you guys.”

The former NBA scoring champion acknowledged that fans remained loyal to him and the Thunder despite the team’s tough seasons before it eventually became an NBA championship-caliber group.

“I really, really, really knew they were real when we sucked for 3 years and they didn’t go anywhere. That’s when I realized they really love us,” the former Kentucky Wildcats star shared.

During the 2025-26 season, Gilgeous-Alexander, who was taken by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft, averaged 31.1 points, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds through 68 games played, while shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from behind the arc. He’s been a bit inconsistent in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, but that hasn’t stopped the Thunder from dominating in the first two rounds, where they swept the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers.
