‘Several’ LIV Golf agents reach out about PGA Tour player return

The future of LIV Golf is bleak, as the Saudi Arabian goverment as reportedly pulled funding beyond this season. That has everyone asking questions, namely about the futures of the players still on the rival tour. According to Gold Digest’s Joel Beall, agents of LIV Golf players, like Bryson DeChambeau, have asked the PGA Tour about return paths.

Two paths have been paved from LIV Golf back to the PGA Tour. The first was by Brooks Koepka, who returned via the Returning Members Program. Opened in December, that program allowed Koepka, DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cam Smith to return only if they met requirements set by the Tour. Only Koepka walked through the door. The other is Patrick Reed, who let his LIV contract lapse and is serving his one-year suspension on the DP World Tour.

“Golf Digest has learned from a PGA Tour source that with LIV set to inform players and staff as early as Thursday that PIF is withdrawing its funding after 2026—and one of the remaining scheduled LIV events already postponed—the Returning Member Program is not expected to be renewed. ‘The situation is different now,’ the source said. Even players hoping for the path Patrick Reed faces—a one-year ban dating to his last LIV appearance—may not get it,” Beall reported.

What next for LIV Golf players suspended by PGA Tour?

Everyone besides Keopka has been suspended by the PGA Tour for one year, effective from the last shot they hit on LIV Golf. Unless Brian Rolapp opened another ‘free pass’ to certain players, DeChambeau and Rahm could be playing 2027 on the DP World Tour. That will be fine for DeChambeau, but Rahm is currently in a stand-off with that tour.

The DP World Tour allowed members to play on LIV Golf and remain in good standing, so long as they pay fines for missing events. Rahm has refused to pay, putting his 2027 Ryder Cup eligibility in the air. Now, he may not have a place to play in 2027. Or, he could pay the fines and play in Europe for the year.

The PGA Tour is in a position of power in terms of letting players back into its good graces. Will they want to get DeChambeau, a YouTube superstar, back in their good graces quickly? Or will they enforce the suspensions and get everything back to normal in 2028? Stick with ClutchPoints as more from the LIV Golf fallout is released.
