Scheffler had never led or co-led after the first round in 26 PGA majors. He also became one of three defending champions to lead after the opening round. The other two being Tiger Woods and Brooks Koepka. Meanwhile, Scheffler remains the No. 1-ranked player in the world and is gunning for his second PGA championship.
In 2025, he won his first championship at -11 under par. Altogether, Scheffler has four major championships to his name, including two Masters wins in 2022 and 2024. He also won the Open Championship in 2025.
In 2026, Scheffler continues to be a dominating force on the tour. He is the leader in strokes gained with 2.056 and scoring average with 68.28. In January, Scheffler recorded his 20th career PGA win at The American Express tournament, putting him in the same company as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicholus. It was during the first round that Scheffler shot a 63.
Additionally, Scheffler has a record of 6 Top-10 finishes and 9 Top-25 finishes. He is also leading the tour in Birdie Average (5.03) and Greens in Regulation (71.30%).
The PGA Championship is scheduled from May 14 to 17 at the Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
