Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland headed to Monday playoff at Travelers Championship

It may be the longest week of the year, but the golf is headed to Monday in Connecticut. Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland are tied at 21-under par after 72 holes at the Travelers Championship, so a Monday playoff is on the way. There was a lengthy rain delay on Sunday evening, forcing an extra day in the Nutmeg State.

Hovland and Scheffler both made par on the 18th hole, knocking Collin Morikawa out of contention. Scheffler needed an 8’6″ putt on the final green to make the playoff, which he jarred. He finished regulation with no three putts on his quest for his 21st PGA Tour win.

The playoff will begin on Monday at 9 a.m. Eastern on Golf Channel. At the Travelers Championship, the sudden-death playoff features the 18th hole over and over again until someone wins. This is the eighth time since 2007 that the Travelers Championship has gone to a playoff. In 2021, Harris English beat Kramer Hicock after eight tries on the 18th hole. Scheffler beat Tom Kim in a playoff in 2024.

The rain delay began when Scheffler and Hovland were in the 14th fairway. After the delay, Wyndham Clark found the water on the 17th hole to fall out of contention. With Morikawa at 20-under, Akshay Bahtia and Matthew Fitzpatrick also fell just short.

Scheffler made incredible par saves on 15 and 17, staying at 21-under par. Hovland birdied the drivable 15th and stayed tied with Scheffler from then on out.

Scheffler is going for his second win of the season and the 21st of his PGA Tour career. Hovland is looking for his eighth career win and the first of his season.
