Scottie Scheffler puts charge into Masters Sunday leaderboard with 68
Early on in Masters week, it looked like Scottie Scheffler was out of the tournament and it was Rory McIlroy’s to lose. Scheffler was even par through 36 holes, while McIlroy held the biggest mid-point lead in tournament history. After a sensational 65 on Saturday, Scheffler kept the pedal down on Sunday, shooting 68.

Scheffler made it happen with consecutive birdies on 15 and 16, cutting McIlroy’s lead to two late in the day. A missed putt on 17 and a squirrley iron shot on 18 held him up late, but Scheffler made sure that the story of the Masters would not be told without him.
Scheffler has won once this season, a surprisingly low number for the number one player in the world. And his Masters path has been the blueprint to some of his failures earlier in the season. Faltering in early rounds and falling just short with Sunday charges has been a trend, with that happening in Scottsdale and Pebble Beach. With two Green Jackets in his closet, Scheffler knows how to win at Augusta. And he showed why on Sunday.
