Scottie Scheffler opens up on heated moment with caddie at The Memorial Tournament

Scottie Scheffler is looking for his third consecutive win at The Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. He comes in without the wins he has stacked up in previous years, but Jack’s Place has been kind to him in recent years. Scheffler struggled on Thursday, however, with a viral moment involving caddie Ted Scott after a shot went into the water. The World’s No. 1 player spoke about the incident after the round.

“That’s just another really good iron shot, and the wind switched from down off the right to pretty significantly in off the right. If it’s down off the right, think that that’s the nature of how the golf course is and kind of how difficult it can get — I can talk about on 10 too – but I think that’s the nature of how difficult the golf course is, especially when the greens get this firm and it’s late in the day and they’re also really fast and the wind can be a little bit unpredictable. And that’s always how it is around this golf course just — because you have a lot of trees and the wind can start bouncing around in different directions, and I think that’s just another reason why it’s so hard,” Scheffler said, per PGATourmedia.com.

Scheffler is known to express some frustration when things don’t go his way, especially toward Scott. Considering he has 4 major championships and 20 PGA Tour wins, that doesn’t happen very often. But the frustrations were coming out late in the day on Thursday. Scheffler shot a one-over par 73 on Thursday.

Four players enter Friday tied atop the leaderboard at the Memorial. Wyndham Clark, Tommy Fleetwood, Ryan Gerard, and JJ Spaun are setting the pace, but Scheffler is lurking on the leaderboard. He has dominated this event in the past, but needs to hit the gas on Friday.
