It has been Scottie Scheffler’s world for so long that we have all just gotten used to things by now.

Consider that Scottie has been OWGR No.1, as far as this stretch is concerned, since May 21st, 2023. As many have noted he would have to hold the mark on October 16th, 2028 in order to pass Tiger Woods for the longest stretch of all time. It is possible, but obviously there is a ways to go.

This is the case with so many marks that Tiger Woods set throughout the course of his legendary career. It is possible to catch him in the way that anything is possible, but it would take a herculean effort in most cases.

Scottie is on Tiger’s heels in one specific way, though.

At the moment Scottie has a number of streaks going and one of them is top-25 finishes. Scottie has finished inside of the top 25 an incredible 35 straight times which is the second-most in the past 40 years. You can guess who has hold on the most.

Tiger Woods finished inside of the top 25 an incredible 38 times which means that Scottie “only” has to finish inside of the top 25 four more times in a row to hold that specific record, relative to the last 40 years, all to himself. Scottie is in the field this week at the Scottish Open and is obviously the defending champion at Open Championship which will take place next week. He could inch closer on that side of the world.

Something like this is, if not obvious, much easier said than done. Whether or not Scottie is able to catch Tiger here, or anywhere, truly remains to be seen.
