Sandown Coral-Eclipse Festival Ladies Day (Friday 3rd July 2026)
We warm up for the Coral-Eclipse on Saturday with a decent looking card on Friday. The feature is the Listed Gala Stakes where the promising Sallaal is looking to back up his impressive Epsom win for Roger Varian.
The Esher Stakes also looks a good race too with Henry II Stakes third Lazy Griff likely hard to beat. Fingers crossed we can bank some winners ahead of a big day tomorrow.

Sandown 1.50 HKJC World Pool Battaash Handicap (Class 2) 5f
I was disappointed with WESTPORT at Royal Ascot but obviously it was a tough ask and if you put a line through that he could prove tough to beat here. He won his first three starts and his form looks decent so off a 1lb lower mark in calmer waters I can see him running a big one.
Comical Point has been running well all season and was only beaten half a length at Windsor so does look the one to give the favourite most to think about under Ryan Moore.
Bet on WESTPORT to win at 7/4 with bet365
Sandown 2.25 Coral Dragon Stakes (Listed) 5f
Another race where you would struggle to rule any out with confidence but RONSON does make plenty of appeal. This colt was down the field on debut but improved to bolt up next time out and then bumped into Matteo last time which was another huge run.
He loves fast ground and if he bounces out and gets into a good rhythm early he will be a major player.
Bint Archange went too hard early on in the Queen Mary but is a lot better than that. If she bounces back she would definitely have a chance in this. A Bear Affair won the Brocklesby and ran well in the Windsor Castle last time so is another one to note.
Bet on RONSON to win at 7/2 with Paddy Power
Sandown 3.00 Tattersalls 40,000 Pound EBF Novice Stakes (Class 2) 7f
This looks wide open so I’m keen to take a chance on debutant THE BALEARIC SUN here.
This colt by Lope De Vega cost 300,000 guineas and is certainly bred to be smart being a half-brother to Berkshire Rocco and a half-sister to Italy. The yard can get them ready first time out and if he attracts market support he could be capable of running a huge race despite lacking experience.
Gymbaazy did well to win on debut at Sandown springing a 22/1 surprise. He can improve again and looks sure to run well despite carrying a penalty. Cilician is another one who could get competitive if seeing out the trip.
Bet on THE BALEARIC SUN each way at 6/1 with Sky Bet
Sandown 3.35 Davies Insurance Solutions Gala Stakes (Listed) 1m2f
The way SALLAAL put the opposition away at Epsom last month was mightily impressive. If you couple that with the fact he was unlucky on reappearance he really comes here at the top of his game. He is thoroughly progressive and while this is tougher again he has more to come and should follow up as he looks a high-class prospect.
Glacius ran well beaten just over a length in the Hampton Court Stakes and should come on plenty from the run. He looks a nice colt for the season ahead so definitely the danger and I’ll be covering the reverse forecast for a bit of insurance too. Dividend and Royal Rhyme are respected but likely up against it.
Bet on SALLAAL to win at evens with Betfred
Sandown 4.10 Coral Marathon (Listed) 2m
It is hard to look past LAZY GRIFF over this trip. I thought he ran a cracker in the Henry II Stakes over track and trip last time.
He had the right two horses in front of him in the shape of Dubai Future and Sweet William and had rivals Paradias and Furthur in behind and well held that day. A repeat of that could see him come away with the prize and he is deservedly a short priced favourite.
Paradias is likeable and will probably be the one to make a race of it. Furthur shouldn’t be ruled out either though as if bringing his best is another one in with a chance but I do expect the jolly to win this comfortably.
Bet on LAZY GRIFF to win at 8/13 with BoyleSports
Sandown 4.42 JRA Handicap (Class 4) 1m6f
Arguably the toughest race on the card so a tentative vote goes to SO ALEX for Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole. This horse has run well on both starts so far this season and was beaten less than a length at Carlisle last month. If he builds on that again he is certainly capable in what looks a winnable contest.
Marnier hasn’t reached the heights he promised but still has solid claims in this race. He was only beaten two lengths at this track last month and another run like that would likely see him involved. Minhad has a bit to prove but certainly is no back number either.
Bet on SO ALEX to win at 7/2 with BetVictor
Sandown 5.15 Debenhams Handicap (Class 4) 1m
It has been the story of the day competitive races and we have another one in the lucky last.
SILCA BAY impressed winning at Goodwood last month though and if in the same form here would have a big shout. He is only 2lb higher and Oliver Carmichael gets to claim his full 7lb this time so effectively is off the same mark. He has a good attitude and I can see this track suiting too.
H Key Lails has been a terrific horse for connections at this lowly level and arrives off the back of a nice win at Lingfield so looks the danger.
Ascending Star is the only other horse to arrive in winning form so he is another one who could have a say even more so the fact he is still unexposed.
Bet on SILCA BAY to win at 11/4 with Spreadex
My top tip for Sandown Coral-Eclipse Festival Ladies Day Friday
What a day ahead!
I’m definitely keeping the faith with WESTPORT so I’ve put him in a treble with impressive Epsom winner SALLAAL and Henry II Stakes third LAZY GRIFF. Around 7/1 looks decent value!
Bet a Win Treble on WESTPORT, SALLAAL and LAZY GRIFF at 7/1 with bet365
