Saints sign ex-Browns cornerback amid Achilles recovery
The New Orleans Saints have signed former Cleveland Browns cornerback Martin Emerson as he continues his recovery from a torn Achilles suffered during training camp prior to the 2025 NFL season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport confirmed the move Tuesday on X, formerly known as Twitter, after initially reporting that Emerson was visiting with the team earlier in the day.
“The #Saints are, in fact, signing Martin Emerson. An intriguing new CB.”
Earlier, Rapoport noted the Saints’ interest as Emerson worked his way back to full health.
“Source: The #Saints are hosting CB Martin Emerson Jr on a visit today. He most recently started two seasons for the #Browns and is recovering nicely from a torn Achilles.”
Martin Emerson’s career-best 2024 season highlights upside for Saints
Emerson, 25, last appeared during the 2024 season with Cleveland, where he delivered the most productive campaign of his career in his third year. Across 17 games, he recorded 80 total tackles, including 62 solo stops and 18 assisted tackles. He also added one forced fumble with a recovery for two yards, five passes defended and three tackles for loss totaling eight yards.
The former Browns defensive back previously showcased his ball-hawking ability during the 2023 season, when he posted a career-high four interceptions in his second year in the league. His development over his first three seasons established him as a consistent presence in Cleveland’s secondary before the Achilles setback.
New Orleans adds Emerson as it looks to bolster depth in the secondary while potentially securing a contributor for later in the season, depending on his recovery timeline. The move reflects a low-risk, high-upside addition for a Saints roster seeking defensive stability heading into the 2026 campaign.
