Sabres’ forward Jiri Kulich speaks publicly on blood clotting issue for 1st time since November

The Buffalo Sabres have plenty of reasons to be positive after their second-round loss at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. They have one of the youngest teams in the league, along with Montreal, and came within a bounce of advancing to the Eastern Conference Final. It likely won’t be the last time these teams meet in an important playoff series, and next time the Sabres will have even more reinforcements, including Jiri Kulich.

Kulich is a bright prospect in Buffalo’s organization, but he played just 12 games this season before leaving the team with a blood clot. While the issue was scary, it won’t affect him long-term, according to Mike Harrington via X, formerly Twitter.

“Jiri Kulich said he had surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to remove the blood clot, and his season was thus over. Feels good now. Doing a lot of skating and shooting, looking forward to next season. Thanks teammates and organization,” Harrington reported.

Kulich had 24 points in his rookie season, playing in just 62 games. However, he had five in 12 games this year and was just starting to heat up before the blood clot knocked him out for the season. The left-shot center figures to bring even more depth to that position for the Sabres, who already had a solid forward lineup during the playoffs.

Buffalo could lose some depth during the offseason if Alex Tuch and Beck Malenstyn hit free agency, so the healthy return of Kulich will be paramount for them to build on their success.
