Ryan Gosling knows he was an absolute liability at cornerback

Ryan Gosling is one of Hollywood’s most well-known actors. His work has earned him three different Academy Award nominations — two Best Actor nods for his roles in Half Nelson and La La Land and a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Barbie — and he is set to star in the highly anticipated Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir’s book of the same title.

But one moment from his filmographic past haunts him to this day.

The fact that he was an absolute liability at cornerback in Remember the Titans.

Playing the role of Alan Bosley, Gosling’s character was beaten repeatedly on big plays, sparking not only this incredible film breakdown by Morgan Moriarty here at SB Nation (from almost a decade ago) but also becoming a meme on social media:

Gosling spoke about that briefly on a new episode of The New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce:

“It doesn’t matter what I accomplish in my life,” describes Gosling. “There’ll be someone in the comment section that says ‘never forget that he’s an absolute liability at the corner.‘

“Get Petey in there ASAP.”

On the bright side, Gosling does have those three Oscar nominations to come home to. And if Project Hail Mary lives up to the hype — this author will be there on opening day — a fourth could be coming his way.

Just don’t ask him to play the corner.

This has us wondering: What other movie or television characters absolutely sucked at their sport? Chime in here:
