Russell Wilson linked with Seahawks reunion as $315m QB’s latest message casts doubt on retirement

Russell Wilson made clear that he was still rooting for the Seattle Seahawks when Sam Darnold inspired victory at Super Bowl LX.

The unemployed quarterback, who won a ring of his own in the Windy City, paid tribute to Darnold’s comeback story having been case aside by the New York Jets.

Wilson has earned around $315 million in an NFL career that could see him enshrined in the Hall of Fame one day.

But recent spells as a Denver Bronco and New York Giant have been dire and there are few options left on the table.

One is to join CBS Sports as an analyst and the opportunity to reunite with his former backup Geno Smith at the Jets is on the cards, albeit with the roles reversed.

“[The Jets] offered me [a contract], and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do,” Wilson said via the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy.

“I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have an opportunity to do TV, so we will see what happens.”

Wilson may be angling for door No. 3 and a return to the city that made him.

He posted an Instagram carousel featuring 11 photos from a trip there and the caption had fans speculating.

“Keep your head to the sky! #GodDidItAll Seattle… Forever Home,” Wilson wrote.

The QB was in town for an inspirational event run by Life Surge, but managed to hit up a few former haunts including The Crab Pot and some markets.

He posed for pictures with Seahawks fans and some believe he is setting up his retirement, although others would rather see ‘Mr Unlimited’ replace current No. 2 Drew Lock.

“We miss you here in Seattle,” wrote one fan. “It will always be your home.”

“He’s getting ready for that 1 day contract. #gohawks,” another added

“We should cut Drew Lock and sign Russ he’d be a better backup tbh,” insisted a member of the 12s.

Russell Wilson can more in broadcasting than as a player

Whether it is in Seattle or elsewhere, Wilson will not be able to command much in terms of salary on the field after a stacked free agency at quarterback with Kirk Cousins and Malik Willis signing big-money deals.

His issue is compounded with what is expected to be a stacked 2027 NFL Draft class at the position.

Some analysts have even suggested six QBs could go on day one after just two — Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson –managed the feat in April.

CBS would be a far more lucrative offer after Wilson made a successful appearance during the Giants’ bye in 2025.

According to The Athletic, Wilson’s is expected to land on the network’s Sunday pregame show ‘The NFL Today’, and the two sides have had ‘lengthy talks’.
