Royals announce new starter vs. Guardians amid Noah Cameron injury

The Kansas City Royals are preparing for the second contest of a four-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night. Kansas City earned an impressive 6-2 win against the Guardians on Monday to begin the series. At 16-19, the Royals are now just 1.5 games behind the 18-18 Guardians and Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central standings. Ahead of Tuesday’s game, the Royals announced a starting pitching change.

Right-handed pitcher Stephen Kolek is now expected to start Tuesday’s game. Left-hander Noah Cameron was initially expected to start, but he is dealing with back tightness.

Injuries have been a concern for the Royals in 2026. The good news is that star closer Carlos Estevez could return soon. Meanwhile, Kansas City is hopeful that Cameron will not have to miss too much time.

Cameron, 26, pitched well in 2025. He ultimately turned in a 2.99 ERA across 24 starts. However, the same cannot be said for his 2026 performance. The southpaw has recorded a 5.40 ERA in six outings up to this point in the new campaign. Nevertheless, he is still an important pitcher for the Royals.

Kansas City will host the Guardians on Tuesday night in what should be another good game. The Royals are looking to further climb the standings in the AL Central. Following a slow start to the season, the ball club is now 8-2 over its past 10 games. They are placing pressure on the Guardians and Tigers at the moment.

First pitch for Tuesday night’s Guardians and Royals clash is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST in Kansas City.
