Rory McIlroy’s mom had epic purse that foretold 2026 Masters championship

Rory McIlroy has won his second straight Masters, with a one-stroke victory on Sunday. After the event, McIlroy thanked his parents, who were in attendance for the event.

While most fans were focused on the play of McIlroy, some noticed the accessory his mom, Rosie, was holding, which paid tribute to her son, according to Claire Rogers of Golf.com.

The purse had pictures of McIlory, including a newspaper article from 2025 announcing his career Grand Slam.

“They weren’t here last year to celebrate with us and surprisingly, I had to convince them to come this year. Because they thought the reason that I won was because they weren’t here,” McIlroy said, holding back tears. “So I’m glad that we proved that wrong. But Mom and Dad, I owe everything to you. You’re the most wonderful parents, and if I can be half the parent to Poppy as you were to me, then I know I’ve done a good job.”

McIlroy was born in Holywood, Northern Ireland, to Rosie and Gerry McIlroy on May 4, 1989. He was the only child and lived modestly in Ireland. He was introduced to golf at a young age and began playing. To fund his ambitions, his father was working multiple jobs, while his mother was working nights to take care of Rory during the day. The hard work paid off for their son, as he has won six majors.

Now, Rosie will need to get another purse made for 2027, this time celebrating McIlroy’s back-to-back victories as he looks to become the first golfer to ever win three Masters in a row.
