Ronda Rousey set to produce MMA drama

Just weeks after her MMA retirement fight against Gina Carano, Ronda Rousey finds herself back in the MMA space again. While not officially making her fighting comeback, Rousey this time will be in the executive producer’s seat.

As per a recent report by Deadline, UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey will serve as the executive producer for an MMA drama titled Brawlers. The MMA project was reportedly awarded the California tax incentive and will shoot on location in Los Angeles, California.

Alongside Rousey, Erwin More and Jill Tanner are also the executive producers of the project, while Andrew Carlberg, Jackie Carr and Fernandez are producing it. Harold Perrineau, recognized for his role in From, will star as the lead in Brawlers. The project was written by Jonathan Fernandez, who is also set to direct it. It is known that the story is based on Los Angeles’ amateur MMA scene, although currently, the story’s specifics are being kept secret.

Ronda Rousey herself is a celebrated combat sports legend. Prior to her successful UFC and WWE career, Rousey won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in judo. She was also the first-ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion as well as the company’s first-ever women’s Hall of Famer.

Following her UFC career, Rousey jumped ship to WWE, where she won multiple titles and became the first woman to main-event a WWE WrestleMania alongside Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Rousey parted ways with WWE in 2023 and enjoyed a brief indie wrestling stint before retiring. She recently made her MMA return against Gina Carano, whom she defeated in under 20 seconds at Jake Paul’s MVP [Most Valuable Promotions].

Rousey is not new to Hollywood and has several big past projects under her name, including The Expendables 3, Furious 7, Charlie’s Angels, and more.
