Rio Ferdinand gives Man United transfer target advice after ‘private conversations’

Rio Ferdinand has implored Manchester United to pull out all the stops and sign Aurelien Tchouameni.

talkSPORT understands the Real Madrid midfielder, who is valued in excess of £70million, is on the Red Devils’ radar.

Speaking on his show Rio Presents, Ferdinand launched an impassioned plea to both parties to get a deal over the line if there’s any hint Tchouameni wants to seek pastures new.

Fer the greater good

“If Tchouameni has half a sniff of getting out of that club, Man United have to be the first team at the door knocking and make sure he can’t even talk to anybody else,” Ferdinand said.

“Get him signed, sealed and delivered.

“Tchouameni, I know we’ve had a few conversations in private but man, I know you watch the show, looking down the lens right now at you, behind these shades, there’s only one club for you, man.

“If you’re looking to leave Real Madrid, we are the club. Man United are the club.

“If you want to make it happen, make the call. That’s what I’d do.”

Tchouameni was previously targeted by United in 2022 when the midfielder was at Monaco.

However, the English giants were beaten to Tchouameni’s signature by Real as they wrapped up a £85m deal.

United’s new-look midfield

United have identified their midfield as an area they need to strengthen following the departure of Casemiro.

The Red Devils had also hoped to sell Manuel Ugarte in the summer, but those plans were ended when he sustained a serious knee injury in Uruguay’s final group game at the World Cup.

In terms of additions, United have already reached an agreement rising to £38.8m with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

United were also in for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes but ultimately walked away from the deal due to his £85m price tag, a fee which Tottenham were happy to stump up.

As for Tchouameni, Real may be tempted to cash in on him to help fund a move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

The Spanish side was forced to release a statement clarifying they have ‘no intention’ of signing Fernandez, who Chelsea value at £120m.

Before Tchouameni’s future is resolved, he has the small matter of the World Cup to worry about.

The 26-year-old has started three times for France at this year’s tournament but missed their Round of 16 clash against Paraguay with a thigh injury.
