Rich Paul’s cautiously warns Celtics over splitting up Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown tandem

Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown has been the subject of rumors since his season ended, which could split as one half of the 2024 champion All-NBA tandem alongside Jayson Tatum, of which Rich Paul is warning the front office. While looking back on his client LeBron James’ final season with the Cleveland Cavs, Paul, James’ agent, reflected on how the loss of Kyrie Irving humbled LeBron.

For Paul, it was a split between two All-Stars that could have been avoided if the two had spoken to one another beforehand. As for the Celtics, Paul believes Brown and Tatum should be having a serious talk ahead of the 2026-27 season, he said, per Game Over podcast.

“I seen the effect that it had on LeBron when Kyrie was traded,” Paul said. “It’s only a problem because you don’t sit down and communicate,” Paul said. “How can it be a problem when you making $300 million, and I’m making $300 million. What’s the problem? What color is your AMEX? Same color as mine. How the hell can it be a problem?”

Two years removed from their respective max deals and a championship, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum should be a much more mature space, and well-equipped to take on the challenge of winning a second title in three years, according to Rich Paul. As for the Celtics front office, an All-NBA tandem of this magnitude, including Brown coming off the most impressive season of his career, the veteran agent reminded them of how rare it is to find All-NBA talent.

“Are you crazy? Do you know how hard it is to find a Jaylen Brown? He’s not in this draft. He’s not in next year’s draft. He wasn’t in last year’s draft,” Paul added. “It’s so difficult to find guys that compete and produce at the level that these guys do. Do you know how hard it is to win a championship? Just to get there.”

Brown averaged 28.7 points on 46.7% shooting, inclduing 34.7% from deep, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per game last season.

Celtics ‘intensify’ trade talks for Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Celtics remain reportedly interested in Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo. While some reports indicate the Celtics have been hesitant about including Jaylen Brown in a deal for Antetokounmpo, that could soon change.

The Celtics continue to show interest in trading for Antetokounmpo, with or without Brown, according to Bucks reporter Gery Woelfel.

“I was told a short time ago the Celtics have intensified their efforts to land Antetokounmpo. The source declined to get into the details. Another league source said he was told the Celtics were more receptive to moving star Jaylen Brown, although it’s unlikely he would wind up in Milwaukee but rather with a third team.” Woelfel reported. “While the Celtics appear focused on landing Antetokounmpo, it is generally believed Miami remains the frontrunner for the two-time MVP.”

Antetokounmpo, with draft implications on the line, is expected to be traded by draft night on Tuesday.
