Ric Flair backs off unhinged Luka Doncic Lakers trade suggestion with Jayson Tatum mic drop

Just over 12 hours after asking the Los Angeles Lakers to trade Luka Doncic, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has backed off his previous statements to a degree.

Ultimately, Flair knows that he won’t be traded, but he is still emphasizing that “everyone is allowed to have their own opinion.” His opinion is that Doncic should be traded, even if the Lakers would never make such a move. He claimed he would demand the same of the Boston Celtics with Jayson Tatum.

“FYI- Obviously They Are Not Going To Trade Luka,” Flair conceded. “He’s Their Future. He’s Their Franchise. But Do The Math- He Averages 33 Points A Game. If He Has 20, LeBron [James] Has 27, And The Rest Of The Team- They Win! I Would Have Said The Same Thing About [Jayson Tatum] On The [Celtics], But I’m Not A Boston Fan. For 46 Million Dollars A Year, I Think You Can Play! Everyone Is Allowed To Have Their Own Opinion. And This Is Mine!”

It’s equally unlikely that the Celtics will trade Tatum. He is one of their star players. Even though the Celtics blew a 3-1 lead to the Philadelphia 76ers, Tatum remains one of the team’s brightest stars.

The drama between Flair and Doncic began on Tuesday, May 5. Flair posted while presumably watching the Lakers’ loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Doncic sat out of the game with an injury, and Flair called him out for it.

“Luka,” Flair began, tagging Doncic’s X, formerly Twitter, account. “Please Get In The Game! Take A Shot Of Cortisone And Deal With The Pain! They Are Paying You 50 Million A Year, And You’re Not There! WTF! I Hope [Jeanie Buss] Trades You Next Year. Nobody Wants A Lame Duck On Their Team!”

Doncic played in 64 games during the 2025-26 regular season. While that may not be up to Flair’s standard, that is still 14 more than he played during the 2024-25 season.

In the 64 games he played in, Doncic averaged a league-leading 33.5 points per game. Additionally, Doncic averaged 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.
