Reporter says quiet part out loud about Dodgers’ Roki Sasaki signing

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed oki Sasaki last offseason. While Sasaki’s performance has been underwhelming for the most part aside from his 2025 playoff pitching out of the bullpen, the Dodgers are not going to give up on him anytime soon. Reporter Katie Woo recently discussed the Dodgers’ plan for Sasaki, via Dodgers Territory.

“They (signed) him (Sasaki) as a building for the future,” Woo said. “There was always going to be some trial and error, some development and some patience… It is just what’s required to get the best version of Roki Sasaki which the Dodgers knew they weren’t going to get in 2025 and they’re not going to get in 2026. Their hope is to get that in 2027, 2028 and beyond.”

Sasaki is continuing to improve, but he has not pitched up to his expectations yet at the MLB level. Overall, the right-handed pitcher has turned in a 5.88 ERA across seven starts in 2026. He also has 31 strikeouts in 33.2 innings of work.

Los Angels is going to continue to proceed with patience. Could Sasaki move to the bullpen for the postseason once again? It is a possibility. Los Angeles wants him to continue to develop but the team also wants to do everything it can to win its third consecutive World Series championship.
