Reds place Ke’Bryan Hayes on IL after activating Eugenio Suarez

Though the game between the Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals has been delayed on Friday, the team would make more big moves that involve the return of a key player and another being placed on the injured list (IL). As fans were wondering when Eugenio Suarez would return to the Reds, it appears the day is finally coming, though Ke’Bryam Hayes will be taking a trip to the IL.

Posted by Cincinnati on their social media channels, Suarez jas been activated by the IL, while Hayes was put on the 10-day IL due to a “lumbar bulging disc.”

“The Reds today activated IF Eugenio Suárez from the 10-day injured list and placed IF Ke’Bryan Hayes on the 10-day injured list (lumbar bulging disc), retro to 5/21,” the team announced on X, formerly Twitter.

Suarez’s return to the Reds is a massive boost for the team, as the slugger had been dealing with an oblique injury. The last time he played was on April 22 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Exactly a month later, Suarez is activated off the IL, as he has a .231 batting average to go along with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 25 games.

Cincinnati manager Terry Francona spoke about Suarez coming back to the team and how his usage will be handled, as he mentioned that he’ll likely play two of the three games against the Cardinals this weekend.

“Even his energy, positive energy, and hopefully getting back healthy, and we’re going to have to kind of pick our spots a little early,” Francona said Friday, via The Cincinnati Enquirer. “So, like, he’ll probably play two out of three this weekend, and we’ve got a 4 o’clock game of the year, so we’ll kind of balance all that, we’re going to probably have to do that with everybody anyway, so but he’ll be a part of that.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen how Suarez’s usage will be with the Reds on Saturday in the doubleheader against the Cardinals, and how long Hayes will be on the IL for.
