Red Wings’ Patrick Kane becomes 4th active player to reach 1,400 points

The Detroit Red Wings are not making the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year, but they do have something to celebrate. Red Wings veteran Patrick Kane became the fourth active NHL player to reach 1,400 career points, per the league.

The other three players to accomplish that incredible feat are Penguins stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, as well as Washington Capitals veteran Alex Ovechkin.

Kane joined that group by picking up an assist on Monday, in Detroit’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Detroit lost to Tampa Bay, 4-3 in overtime.

The Red Wings star has played more than 1,300 career games in the NHL. He has skated for Detroit, as well as the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers. Kane was on three Stanley Cup championship winning-teams in Chicago.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Kane has posted 57 total points in 66 games. The winger has 41 assists on the season.

“He’s just a great human being,” Red Wings center Marco Kasper said, per the Detroit Free Press. “I think that’s the most important thing. He’s awesome. One of the boys, just have fun with him. Every pregame skate, we have a lot of fun, play a bit of a challenge before the game. It’s awesome to see him and be a teammate of his. It’s really cool.”

The Red Wings looked almost like a lock for a playoff berth this season, but the team struggled in the final weeks of the campaign. Following the loss to Tampa Bay, Detroit is now 41-30-10 on the year.

Detroit closes out the season on Wednesday, in a game against the Florida Panthers. The Red Wings have lost back-to-back games, and won only three times in their last 10 contests.
