Red Sox’s Alex Cora shares crucial Patrick Sandoval injury update

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval is dealing with biceps soreness. Sandoval has dealt with injury concerns since signing with the Red Sox before the 2025 season, as he has yet to appear in a game with the ball club. The pitcher recently received an encouraging update from manager Alex Cora, however.

“Cora said Patrick Sandoval (biceps soreness) is not likely to have imaging. Instead, Red Sox hope a couple days of rest will do the trick. Doesn’t seem to be much concern,” Chris Cotillo of masslive.com reported.

Sandoval, 29, suffered the biceps concern during a recent injury rehab start. It initially seemed as if it could be a concerning setback, but Cotillo’s report suggests it likely will not be too much of a problem. Boston will continue to closely monitor the situation.

Sandoval last appeared in the big leagues with the Los Angeles Angels in 2024. He struggled across 16 2024 starts, but he had previously displayed signs of promise. In 2022, Sandoval pitched to a 2.91 ERA in 27 starts with the Angels.

The Red Sox feature plenty of pitching depth. Regardless, Boston is hopeful that Sandoval can make an impact at some point this season.

The Red Sox will not complain about extra help right now. They are just 8-13 and tied for last place with the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East division to begin the 2026 MLB season.

Boston is currently playing the Detroit Tigers. The ball club is hoping to begin winning games on a consistent basis sooner rather than later.
