Red Sox’ Roman Anthony drops ‘frustrating’ admission on injury
The Boston Red Sox have endured a painful season as the team heads toward the middle of June. The biggest problem the last-place team in the American League East has faced is the overall lack of offense. The pitching has often kept the Red Sox close in many of their games, but they have regularly failed to get the key hits when runners have been on base. One of the reasons for that is the absence of Roman Anthony.
A year ago, Anthony was the team’s phenomenal call-up from Triple-A Worcester. He was one of the keys to the lineup as the Red Sox were good enough to earn a Wild Card spot in the American League playoffs. The Red Sox were expecting Anthony to be a team leader this season and the most dynamic bat in the lineup. However, he has been out of action since May 4 with a wrist injury.
While it was originally expected that he would miss just a few games, the wrist has been slow to come around. Anthony met with the media prior to Boston’s Saturday afternoon game against the Texas Rangers, and he could not deliver any good news about when he might be able to return to action.
“Progressing a lot slower than I had imagined in the beginning of this but definitely progressing, which is the biggest thing,” Anthony said. “It’s just pain in my hand. That’s what it was until it’s not that, I’ll be here. But as soon as it feels like it starts to get a whole lot better, I’m sure we’ll have a better idea of where we’re at and how it’s going to go from there.”
