Red Sox make pitching switch amid Rays series
The Boston Red Sox entered their series against the Tampa Bay Rays on a high after sweeping the Detroit Tigers in a three-game set, but an 8-4 loss on Thursday night brought the team back down to earth. With the team still clawing to get back into the playoff race, the team announced some roster moves to their pitching rotation, including re-calling Jack Anderson via X, formerly Twitter.
“The Red Sox today recalled RHP Jack Anderson from Triple-A Worcester. To make room on the active roster, Boston optioned LHP Jake Bennett to Worcester following last night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays,” the team announced.
Anderson already appeared in three games for the Red Sox this season, allowing three earned runs over eight innings. He is a long-relief option out of the bullpen, which Boston could use with their busy schedule this week. He started three games (five appearances overall) this season in Worcester for Boston’s AAA team, owning a 4.50 ERA, and was also part of Great Britain’s entry in the World Baseball Classic.
The least of the Red Sox’s problems this season has been their pitching staff, which currently ranks 15th in the league with a 4.11 collective ERA. If it weren’t for Boston’s pitching, the story coming out of Boston could be much worse.
Despite the staff’s success, the front office and manager Chad Tracy are still trying to find the right mix. They hope to get back on track in the remaining three games against the Rays this weekend.
