Red hot Jalen Green leads Suns past Warriors

The Phoenix Suns advanced out of the Play-In Tournament and secured the Western Conference’s No. 8 seed with a 111-96 win over the Golden State Warriors. The game opened with a 33-15 first quarter, followed by a Warriors’ response which saw them comeback with a 30-17 second quarter.

However, Jalen Green was in red-hot form throughout, returning with 36 points on 14-20 shooting with a total of eight three-pointers. His eight made threes came with almost eight minutes remaining in the game, taking the lead to nine points (87-78) and tying the record for the most three-pointers in a play-in game, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.

Golden State’s nine early turnovers translated into 13 Suns points. Their second-quarter comeback trimmed the lead to 50-45 at the end of the first half before Phoenix pushed it to as high as 16 in the third.

Golden State generated multiple comeback attempts across the first three quarters, cutting the deficit to single digits entering the fourth. Stephen Curry struggled throughout, finishing with 17 points on 4-of-16 shooting. Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Draymond Green contributed five points, five rebounds, and six assists before fouling out.

For Phoenix, Jordan Goodwin recorded 19 points and nine rebounds while taking on defensive responsibility against Curry for extended stretches. Devin Booker finished with almost a double-double with 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds while going 5-12 from the field but converting all 10 of his free throws.

Royce O’Neale came off the bench to score 11 as the Warriors struggled to recover past the second quarter. Dillon Brooks also enjoyed a busy night defensively throughout as he returned with 13 points and four assists.

The result eliminates Golden State while Phoenix advances to face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round. Phoenix advance to the postseason after missing out at the same stage last campaign.
