Real Madrid star ruled out of Real Betis clash due to injury – doubtful for Spanish Super Cup
Real Madrid must defeat Real Betis on Sunday to keep pace with Barcelona in La Liga, but their chances have suffered a blow in the lead-up to the Bernabeu clash. Xabi Alonso has already been without a number of defenders for recent matches, and he must do without another against Los Verdiblancos.
Alonso is yet to name his matchday squad to face Betis, but when it is released, Dean Huijsen will not feature. Doubts were raised about his availability during Saturday’s press conference, and according to Miguel Angel Diaz, the Spain international has now definitely been ruled out after failing to recover from discomfort.
Huijsen has suffered a muscle overload, and the decision has been made for him not to be risked against Betis. It means that Alonso will be without arguably his two centre-back starters in him and Eder Militao, although the good news is that David Alaba could be available after his own injury woes. Nevertheless, the likelihood is that Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asencio line up together in the centre of defence.
Huijsen not assured for Spanish Super Cup.
The report could not confirm whether Huijsen will be available for next week’s trip to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup. Real Madrid face city rivals Atletico Madrid in Thursday’s semi-final, and right now, there is every chance that the 20-year-old, whose poor form in recent months has been well-documented, is also unable to travel to the Middle East.
The next few days will be key to knowing whether Huijsen is deemed fit enough to play for Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final. Despite his form, he is an assured starter in the absence of Militao, which is why Alonso will be determined to have him available for travelling to Saudi Arabia.
