Raptors rumors: The lottery bust who’s open to trade

The Toronto Raptors recently saw their 2025-26 season come to an end with a tough Game 7 loss on the road against the Cleveland Cavaliers. While the Raptors made things more competitive in this series than it looked like they would through two games, it was still a tough outcome for an overall strong season in Toronto.

One person who fell out of the Raptors’ rotation this season was wing Gradey Dick, who struggled to shoot the ball earlier in the year, and whose defense hasn’t improved much since he entered the league.

Recently, Michael Grange of Sportsnet reported on how a change of scenery could be coming for the former Kansas guard this offseason, especially to make way to bring back Sandro Mamukelashvili.

“The Raptors could likely free up more money by trading 2023 first-round pick Gradey Dick into another team’s cap space this summer, something the third-year wing would be amenable to, per sources, given he was locked out of meaningful minutes after the all-star break,” reported Grange.

Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic also spoke on the wing’s struggles throughout the season.

“Whatever happened this year, he needs to learn from that experience & come back ready to contribute next year & that means on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he needs to take a big step & he needs to be more consistent as a shooter… We believe in him,” said Rajakovic, per Josh Lewenberg of TSN on X, formerly Twitter.

While some accused Rajakovic of having a short leash with Dick, especially considering the team’s overall perimeter shooting struggles, it’s clear that the former lottery pick will need to put in some work prior to next season, whether that’s with the Raptors or another team.
