Rangers’ Skip Schumaker, Wyatt Langford get 100% real after big win vs. Mariners

After the Texas Rangers had been suffering from competitive losses, the team needed a convincing win at this point of the season, as they got just that in Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. As Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom led the staff to a shutout win, the offense led by Wyatt Langford was great, as manager Skip Schumaker spoke about the win.

Schumaker would speak highly of Texas’ pitching staff, which started with deGrom, though the pitch count for him got high early, as he only pitched four innings, throwing 88 balls.  Still, it was an effective four innings, as Schumaker spoke to MLB.com about how Friday was a “really good execution of the game plan.”

“It’s just a good team win overall,” Schumaker said. “I mean, we did the little things well, got the bunts, got the guy over, got him in, drove the ball, had extra base hits. I mean, I think just overall, just really good execution of the game plan, and played baseball tonight, it was fun to watch.”

A much-needed game for Rangers’ Wyatt Langford

It was a good showcase for Langford as he’s been slumping to start the 2026 season, but Friday was a sign of good things to come, as he recorded three hits.

“I mean, he’s such a hard worker, such a good kid,” Schumaker said. “Usually, hard work equals good luck. I think a broken bat, you know, whatever fell in, and then it just starts rolling. And so it’s not surprising. He’s one of the best players in the big league. So there’s a lot of guys that are not off to great starts around the league.”

Langford admitted the “slow start” to his third MLB season, but isn’t shying away from the competition.

“Not really what I wanted to happen, but just going out there and playing every day. I mean, it’s a fun group to play with, finding ways to win. So it’s easy to go out there and have fun,” Langford said Friday.

The Rangers and Langford look to keep it going against the Mariners throughout the weekend.
