PSG vs Lyon predictions
There have been times this season when Paris Saint-Germain have underwhelmed.
For a while Luis Enrique’s side trailed Lens at the top of Ligue 1. Having lost only two league games last term, PSG had already suffered that number of defeats by November this time around.
As well as losing twice to Monaco and once each to Marseille and Rennes, PSG drew three out of four matches in October.
They did not set the league phase of the Champions League alight either. A 2-1 victory over Barcelona at the Camp Nou was impressive, not least because PSG had several players missing that night.
However, they won just one of their last five games in the league phase and ultimately finished outside the top eighth for the second season running, necessitating their participation in the knockout phase play-offs.
Yet the evidence of the last few weeks suggests PSG are peaking at precisely the right time. It is not clear whether that is by accident or design, but Luis Enrique’s side have come good when it counts most.
After squeezing past Monaco in that aforementioned Champions League play-off, PSG have made light work of two of the biggest clubs in England.
First they demolished Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate in the round of 16, winning 5-2 at home and then 3-0 away.
The scoreline was not quite as emphatic against Liverpool in the quarter-finals, but PSG won 2-0 at both the Parc des Princes and Anfield to book their place in the last four in style.
“Last season, everybody thought we could not win the Champions League because we are so young,” Luis Enrique said after Tuesday’s success on Merseyside. “Now everybody knows we are the champions, but we need to grow. That’s our objective.”
In Ligue 1, meanwhile, PSG are potentially just a couple of victories away from pulling clear of Lens in the title race.
The Parisians hold a four-point lead as things stand, while they also have a game in hand on their rivals for the prize.
That rearranged match against Nantes is scheduled for Wednesday, so if results go PSG’s way over the next few days, they could be 10 points clear at the summit of the standings by next weekend.
At worst, victories over Lyon and Nantes would give PSG a seven-point buffer with just five rounds of fixtures remaining. They are almost there.
PSG vs Lyon betting tips
Paris Saint-Germain resume their Ligue 1 title push at home to Lyon on Sunday night.
PSG to shine
If they are not careful, Lyon could miss out on the Champions League. That would be a blow given how comfortable they looked a few weeks back.
Lyon have slipped from third to fifth in the table after winning only one of their last seven Ligue 1 fixtures.
That victory came last weekend as Paulo Fonseca’s men beat Lorient 2-0, but this will be a much stiffer test.
PSG are in excellent attacking form and they will fancy their chances of scoring either side of half-time against a Lyon team that conceded three goals in the reverse fixture.

PSG ahead at break
Lens play before PSG this weekend, but the outcome of that game on Friday night will not affect how Luis Enrique’s side approaches the meeting with Lyon.
The PSG boss will encourage his players to get out of the blocks quickly on Sunday, as PSG aim to establish a healthy lead by the interval.
The champions have been ahead after 45 minutes in four of their last five games, and they have the best overall first-half record in the division this season.
Lyon will probably have to come from behind at the break to get anything from their latest trip to the capital.

Barcola on target?
Desire Doue came off injured against Liverpool and it is not yet clear whether he will be fit to feature on Sunday.
Luis Enrique may opt to give the youngster the night off even if he has recovered from his collision with a Liverpool ball boy.
Bradley Barcola began Tuesday’s match on the bench, but there is a good chance he will be in the XI to face Lyon.
Barcola is in excellent form, having scored four goals in his last five appearances, and he is our pick to find the back of the net in this one.
