Predators rumors: Nashville GM search still rolling on, with Tom Fitzgerald in the mix
The first order of business for the Nashville Predators this offseason will be to find a worthy general manager successor to Barry Trotz. In a fitting yet ironic twist, the man who could replace the Predators’ legend as GM is another important piece of the team’s history: Tom Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was recently let go by the New Jersey Devils and is being considered a potential candidate to lead his former team, according to Frank Seravalli via X, formerly Twitter.
Fitzgerald was the first captain in team history, chosen by the man he could replace, who was the head coach in Nashville for 16 years. If Trotz has any say in who could be the next man to lead the organization forward, it’s hard to predict that it won’t be the man whom he thought was worthy of being his captain 28 years ago.
It won’t just be Trotz who gets a say in the role. Bill Haslam and former Alabama Football head coach Nick Saban have also been in the interview process thanks to their new ownership stake in the team. While Saban’s mastery is on the gridiron, he knows what it takes to be successful and should be able to offer important insights into the search.
Most teams looking to finalize their management process are waiting until other teams’ seasons end to cast the widest net possible in their search. With other teams narrowing down their candidates, we could expect to see some movement from the Predators soon to avoid losing out on someone they value to be their GM.
