Predators acquire forward from Rangers
The Nashville Predators acquired forward Adam Edstrom from the New York Rangers in a trade announced Saturday by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Chris MacFarland. The Predators sent forward Massimo Rizzo and a fifth-round pick (148th overall) in the 2026 NHL Draft to New York in the deal.
Edstrom, 25, appeared in 35 games with the Rangers in the 2025-26 season, collecting five points (3 goals, 2 assists) while averaging 9:28 of ice time per game. He also recorded 2 penalty minutes during that span. He was originally selected by New York in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Across his NHL career with the Rangers, Edstrom played 97 games, scoring 10 goals and 16 points. In the 2024-25 campaign, he was among New York forwards with 34 blocked shots (fifth) and 94 hits (sixth), and over his career he has amassed 58 blocked shots and 189 hits in 97 NHL appearances.
Edstrom is entering the second season of a two-year contract signed in June 2025, carrying a $1.95 million total value and a $975,000 cap hit. He will be a restricted free agent upon expiration of the deal.
Edstrom’s 2025-26 season was impacted by injury, including a fractured ankle that sidelined him from December to March. He also missed time due to injury during a 51-game season in which his role was disrupted, and he was scratched for a large portion of games after returning in March as he fell out of the lineup under head coach Mike Sullivan.
Before his NHL tenure, Edstrom accumulated 17 points (12 goals, 5 assists) in 43 AHL games with Hartford between 2022 and 2024. Before coming to North America, the Karlstad, Sweden native produced 48 points (23 goals, 25 assists) in 189 Swedish Hockey League games with Rogle BK and was part of a Champions Hockey League-winning team in 2021-22.
In return, the Rangers acquired Massimo Rizzo, a restricted free agent who is not expected to receive a qualifying offer, along with the 148th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Rizzo also recorded 22 points in 29 ECHL games with the Reading Royals and 5 points in 14 AHL games split between the Providence Bruins and Milwaukee Admirals.
