Pistons’ Ausar Thompson will be out for revenge after ‘personal’ series vs. Cavs
With the Detroit Pistons suffering an embarrassing Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 125-94, there is no denying that the result not only hurts due to the score disparity, but also that their season is officially over. As the Pistons reflect after the blowout loss, star Ausar Thompson sends a message to the team and the rest of the league about the team.
It was a rather disappointing outing for Thompson, who recorded five points on two of seven from the field, one of two from beyond the arc, to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks. He would be honest in saying that the series with the Cavs “felt personal,” as he won’t forget it, which is the ultimate message to the team after the loss.
“Let it hurt, let it sting, and just get better. Like everybody, not only the team, but individually, like what can we do better next year? Help each other out. That’s my focus. The loss hurts, but learn from it,” Thompson said, via Jacob Richman.
“I’m not forgetting. I’m not forgetting. I mean, that series, that felt personal,” Thompson continued. “So, I’m not forgetting it. I remember.”

Pistons’ Ausar Thompson is extension-eligible this offseason
When it comes to Thompson’s role with the Pistons, he continued to show this year how integral the 23-year-old is to the franchise, as he averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the field. Also boasting an elite defensive ability, his future with Detroit appears to be safe as Hunter Patterson of The Athletic reports that Thompson is seen “as part of its core and will seek to get a rookie-scale extension.”
“Ausar Thompson is also extension eligible. Per a league source, Detroit views Thompson as part of its core and will seek to get a rookie-scale extension done with the third-year wing in the offseason,” Patterson wrote. “Thompson tallied more ‘stocks’ than anyone in the postseason (28 steals and 25 blocks), and his impact was undeniable despite his offensive limitations.”
It remains to be seen when the Pistons and Thompson come to terms on an extension.
