Phillies’ Dave Dombrowski breaks down ‘very complicated’ Aidan Miller back injury

The Philadelphia Phillies’ No. 1 prospect, Aidan Miller, is currently suffering from a back injury that has prevented him from being promoted to the majors. With the star infielder scheduled for a procedure, President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski provided an update on the situation.

While talking with media members just hours before Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres, Dombrowski described Miller’s injury as complicated and that he will be out for the next seven to nine weeks, according to 97.5 The Fanatic. Miller is not likely to return from the injury at all this season, but the Phillies expect him to come back by spring training in 2027.

“We’ve been very close. Numerous times where we’ve been close to where we think [he can] get out, taking the next step. He just has not been able to quite get to that point,” said Dombrowski about Miller. “He’s seen specialists throughout the last three months. But they feel [the procedure] is the logical next step, and they think this will help…

“There’s a lot of steps in between there. A lot of people looking at him. Not only the specialists, but of course, our people looking at him. It’s a very complicated situation. Just like a lot of things when you’re dealing with multiple muscles and joints… There’s been kind of a feeling [the specialists] know where [the injury] is. It’s been a matter of eliminating the pain.”

Aidan Miller will miss the next 7-9 weeks for a back procedure. The Phillies expected him to be ready for spring training.

The 21-year-old shortstop was a first-round pick by the Phillies in the 2023 MLB Draft. Since then, he’s played three seasons in MiLB. In 893 career at-bats in the minor leagues, Aidan Miller owns a .265 batting average and .383 OBP while recording 237 hits, 25 home runs, and 104 RBIs with 86 stolen bases.
