Phillies’ Bryce Harper has nothing but good things to say about Rob Thomson after his firing

With the Philadelphia Phillies firing manager Rob Thomson amidst a slow start to the season, it marks the end of his tenure with the team since starting in 2022. As the Phillies now have an opening at manager, star Bryce Harper gives his thoughts on the news, which is nothing but positive sentiments towards Thomson.

Speaking Tuesday after the news, Harper would express how “it’s tough” to lose Thomson, as both went to the World Series in 2022.

“Obviously, losing [Thomson] hurts; it’s tough. When anybody loses their job or goes through a situation like this, it’s always tough. We love [Thomson] in here. He’s a great manager for us over the years. I’ve had a lot of managers, I’ve played for a lot of guys over my 15-year career, and [Thomson] is definitely one of the guys at the top. He just Steady Eddy in here every day,” Harper said, via OnPattison on X, formerly Twitter.

Harper also spoke about how, with Philadelphia off to a 9-19 start to the season, Thomson “took the fall” for the players, who admitted are the ones “that kind of make those decisions happen.”

“Was really good for the clubhouse, really good for the team,” Harper said of Thomson. “Obviously, this year hasn’t gone as planned. And I think as players, we take that and we’re the ones that kind of make those decisions happen, right? We don’t play well or make things happen; somebody takes the fall, and, you know, he took the fall today. But one of the better managers I’ve definitely ever played for.”

Now, the Phillies look to Don Mattingly as the interim manager for the team until a permanent one is hired.
