Penn State football loses player who had been committed since March
Penn State football will have to pivot once again this week after another one of their commitments flipped schools. This time, three-star cornerback Zachary Gleason flipped to West Virginia, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3. Gleason had committed to Penn State in March.
Gleason took a visit to West Virginia a week before he came to Penn State, and now he’ll be the only cornerback commit for the program. Gleason had offers from Boston College, Cal, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan State, North Carolina and many others.
As a junior for Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Gleason finished with 28 tackles, three interceptions, four tackles for a loss, one sack and a forced fumble.
Earlier in the week, Semajay Robinson flipped from Penn State to Virginia. Head coach Matt Campbell now has only 20 verbal commitments in the Class of 2027.
Penn State is looking to build a winner after bringing in Campbell, and players already feel a difference in the culture after the program parted ways with James Franklin. Rocco Becht was one of the first players to mention the shift, and he believes in Campbell’s philosophy.
“He wants to build a player-led program,” Becht said via Nick Kosko of On3. “When you’re not all aligned with the same goals and expectations, you’re not going to win those big games. … Last year, it wasn’t really player-led and the culture just wasn’t always there. Right now, where we are, everyone is completely bought in.”
Hopefully, that’s something that all the players see moving forward, especially the ones who have recently committed.
